ALBUM REVIEW: THE WAVE PICTURES - BEER IN THE BREAKERS

There are bands that are hyped as soon as they release any material, bands that get to be both critic darlings and loved by the audience immediately. And then there are those who, while incredible beyond belief, are relatively unknown. The Wave Pictures is one of those bands. Not as popular as it deserves to be (not yet, anyway), but with a lot of potential and a strong and loyal fan base. Their most recent album Beer in the Breakers, liketheir previous ones, is further proof that they deserve greater acclaim by the masses.

Lyrically brilliant, along with David Tattersall’s unique voice and coupled with excellent instrumentals, it is an album you have to hear to believe. Like Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin, Tattersall’s voice is the rare kind that comes around every few generations. It’s instantly recognizable, it has a unique tone to it and it adds more depth to the already excellent music.

Tattersall is also really talented when it comes to the lyrics. Like with their other albums, the songs are so beautifully descriptive, that it makes you feel like you are there with him and you see what he sees, leaving a lasting print on the listener’s memory.

The entire album flows beautifully and the songs really come together. Even though Blink Back A Tear  and Walk The Back Stairs Quiet are some of the songs that stand out instrumentally, and Little Surprise is one of the catchier pieces,it’s still hard to pick a favorite. So sit back and enjoy, because this is definitely one of the best releases of the year.
