ANTONY AND THE JOHNSONS - THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE

Our fourth post about Antony’s artwork is dedicated to his new EP “Thank You For Your Love”. Pictured on the cover is Michael Cavadias shot by Anthony in New York in the early nineties.
In 1990 Anthony Hegarty moved to Manhattan to attend the Experimental Theatre Wing of New York University (NYU). Cavadias came to New York from California to attend the same theater program. His first day there he ran into Antony, of Antony and the Johnsons—they knew each other from the West Coast drag scene. “We went to the Pyramid Club on A the first night we were in New York. There was this trannie named Hattie singing Kate Bush’s ‘Wow.’” Cavadias began performing as Lily in the Valley at clubs like the now-defunct Squeezebox.
Antony spent the next several years singing in NYC’s afterhours bars and clubs accompanying himself on pre-recorded cassettes as well as writing and directing late night theatre productions.
